Freshmen Split With East Central

The San Marcos High School freshmen opened their 2004 District 25-5A campaign on Thursday as they hosted the East Central Hornets. After two exciting and competitive contests the Rattlers split with the visiting Hornets.

The White team maintained their perfect record as they raced by the Hornets 34-0.  The win vaults their season mark to 5-0.  With the win, the Rattlers also maintain a share of the District 25-5A lead.

The White team defense proved to be too much for East Central as they registered their first shutout of the season.  The Rattlers were able to force three Hornet turnovers (1 interception & 2 fumble recoveries) which were all converted to Rattler scores.

Brandon Banks continues to be superb for the White team.  He finished the evening with 215 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns.  Also reaching paydirt were Gilbert Cavazos and Lauren Morales.

The Purple team faced an undefeated Hornet team in the second game of the evening.  East Central was able to score late in the game to squeeze by the Rattlers 18-15.  With the loss, the Rattlers drop to 3-2 on the season.

Chris Cruz and James Williams both scored on long runs to keep the Rattlers in the ball game.  Williams scored on a beautiful 88-yard scamper.  Cruz scored mid-way through the 4th period on a 53-yard run.  Kicker, Albert Fernandez, tacked on the first extra point while Scott Camacho ran in the second one.

This week both teams travel to Seguin to take on the Matadors in a key District contest. The White team will kick things off with a 4:00 P.M. start. The second contest is scheduled to begin at 5:15. Come out and support the Rattlers as they take on the Matadors.
