Rattler Freshmen Move to 2-0

 

            The San Marcos Rattler Freshmen teams played host to the Stony Point stadium on Thursday night.  Both the “A” and “B” teams came away victorious to run the their season marks to 2-0.  The Purple (A) team squeezed out a 14-13 victory while the White (B) team outscored the opponent 28-14.

            In the first game of the evening, the White team cruised to an easy victory.  The Rattlers scored on the second play from scrimmage on a 45-yard run by Brandon Banks.  Stony Point was able to take an early lead as they scored and then converted the 2-point conversion to go ahead 8-6, moments later, Rattler Quarterback, Lauren Morales scored on a sneak.  Banks tacked on the extra point on a short run to give the home team a 14-8 lead.  The Rattlers hit pay dirt again on a 70-yard touchdown run by Albert Fernandez.  At the half, San Marcos led comfortably 22-8.  Both teams tacked on one score in the second half to bring the final score to 28-14.  The Rattler defense was credited with making several key tackles. 

            The Rattler Purple team won their second game of the season in the night cap.  In a hard fought contest, the Rattlers were able to earn a tough 14-13 win.

Chris Tovar accounted for the Rattlers first score as he plowed in from 2 yards out.  Tovar added the two-point conversion making the score at 8-0.  Stony Point’s offense exploded in their first two drives scoring easily to take a 13-8 lead.  Both defenses stiffened in the second stanza leaving the score at intermission at 13-8.  In the second half, the home team wore down the visitors with relentless offensive and defensive attacks.  The Rattlers were able to score midway through the fourth period to take their 14-13 lead on Scott Camacho’s 9-yard run around end. 

            The offense was led by the running of James Williams.  Opening big holes for the Rattlers were D.J. Hemphill, Chris Garcia, Michael Moreno, Shawn Ahmad, San Sysalemsouk and Willie Sanchez.

The Rattler defense was superb in the second half holding the Tigers to no first downs.  Defensive standouts for the Rattlers were Chris Cruz, Lawrence Warren and Tovar.   

This week the Rattlers travel to Pflugerville to take on the Connally Cougars.  The “B” team opens play at 5:00 while the “A” teams follows at 7:00.  Come out and watch our future stars tackle the Cougars.
