San Marcos Rattlers vs. Schertz Clemens Buffalos

The Rattler Sophomore (3-0) team survived a scare Thursday night in their game vs. Schertz Clemens (3-1) in winning 36-26.  The Buffalos took scored on the very first play of the game on a 65-yard touchdown run, but the Rattlers answered right back with a scoring drive which was capped of by a 1-yard run by Mark Talemantes.  Justin Jackson scored on the two-point conversion to put the Rattlers up 8-6 early in the first half.

It was a back and forth game in the first half and the Buffalos took the lead right before halftime on a 95-yard touchdown run off left tackle.  In the second half Kevin Stiles took over for the Rattlers, scoring two of his three touchdowns and a two-point conversion in the half.

The Rattler defense stepped up in the second half as well, holding Clemens on a couple of crucial drives and giving the ball back to the offense.  The offensive line did a great job of adjusting to the different looks that the Clemens defense threw at them, and paved the way for San Marcos running backs to gain 392 yards on 47 carries.

Stiles led the way with 233 yards on just 18 carries.  The majority of his yards came before contact in the second half because the offensive line, led by Ysidro Contreras and Andrew Miller were opening up gaping holes for him to run through.

Michael Dominguez rounded out the scoring with a 4-yard touchdown dive in the waning minutes of the game to ensure the Rattler victory.  The Rattlers travel to Hays to play the Rebels next Thursday, September 23, 2004.
